We are glad to invite you to participate in the VI Encuentro de Filosofía e Historia de la Ciencia del Cono Sur (AFHIC 2008) scheduled by our Association for May 27-30, 2008, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

As in previous meetings, you can participate by sending individual contributions on various areas of Philosophy and History of Science, or you can propose discussion panels on specific subjects, or a running workshop for the duration of the meeting.

Non members of AFHIC can participate by sending their individual contributions, and as speakers in panel discussions or workshops proposed by AFHIC members.

  • Philosophy of mathematics
  • Philosophy of individual natural sciences
  • Philosophy of individual social sciences
  • Philosophy of technology
  • History of natural sciences and technology
  • History of mathematics
  • History of social sciences
  • Historic, social and cultural studies of philosophy of science and of philosophy of technology
  • Political philosophy of science and technology
  • Philosophy and history of science and teaching of the sciences
  • Gender philosophy of science

1) Workshops:

Proposals for workshops must include:

  • Title
  • Name(s) and institutional of affiliation of moderator(s)
  • Names and institutional affiliation of speakers
  • Titles and summaries of the contributions, for their evaluation and publication
    (see Rules for Summaries)
  • Organization suggested for the workshop, subject to confirmation after the evaluation

Deadline for Workshop proposals: October 1, 2007

2) Discussion panels

Proposals for discussion panels must include

  • Title
  • Name(s) and institutional affiliation of moderator(s)
  • Names and institutional affiliation of speakers
  • Titles and summaries of the contributions, for their evaluation and publication
    (see Rules for Summaries)

Duration of the panel discussions, including time for audience participation, must not exceed 90 minutes.
Deadline for panel discussion proposals: October 15, 2007

3) Individual contributions

Contributions not included in workshops or discussion panels must contain:

  • Title
  • Name(s) and institutional affiliation of author(s)
  • Summary for evaluation and publication (see Rules for Summaries)

As is usual in our meetings, each contribution is allowed 20 minutes with 10 additional minutes for discussion and questions.

Contributions sent by October 15, 2007 are accepted subject only to evaluation.  There is a
final deadline: November 15, 2007.  However, acceptance of contributions sent after October 15 (and not later than November 15) depends additionally on availability of space in the program.

Rules for Summaries:

Contributions must include

  • Summary for evaluation (1000 words plus references)
  • 100-word Abstract for inclusion in the program
  • Summaries must contain name(s) of author(s), institution of affiliation, e-mail address, and 3 keywords for subject classification.
